New to the Blogging World

This summer I took a graduate education class, Literacy in the Content Area, at UNCG and created this blog as a requirement for the class. We used our blogs to post assignments and our professor encouraged us to make it into a blog we could use for our students (a way to incorporate literacy into our content areas). The class is over now and I have deleted most of the posts (be grateful- they were boring), but I think I'm going to hang on to the blog for a while and see how it goes.

I did leave one post from my class: a paper I wrote called an Occasional Paper. I left it up for a couple reasons. 1- I think it's interesting and think others might find it interesting also (maybe not). 2- The concept of the Occasional Paper is an awesome one and I wish more teachers would use it, especially math teachers. Though I am not teaching anymore and only taught for a year, I still have a passion for education and love learning about new methods, activities, etc. that engage and challenge students. In a nutshell, an occasional paper is a short paper written by a student about a recent occasion in everyday life that can be connected to the subject area. The paper is read aloud to the class and should offer some questions/reflection that promote class discussion. It's a pretty cool concept, if you ask me.

Anyway...I'm gonna see what happens with this blog. Who knows what I'll do with it, if I do anything at all. :)
